Are You One of the Elect?

Christians are urged in II Peter 1:10 to, "Make your calling and election sure." The verb tense indicates that this is action done by one upon himself; that is, to make his election sure to himself or have assurance of his election.

God has graciously given His children ways by which they can do this. He has given evidences in His word whereby one may judge himself.

1. Do you believe (love, serve, and follow) the Lord Jesus Christ?

2. Do you love and seek out the fellowship of other believers?

3. Do you mourn over your own sins?

4. Do you delight in moral purity?

5. Do you love to learn more about God in order to know Him better?

6. Do you labor to control your evil passions?

7. Do you treat your fellow man with respect?

These are among the evidences of election found in I John and II Peter 1.

Certainly no man is perfect in any of these things, but the born again person truly hungers and seeks for these things and is sad when he falls short of them.

Please do not get me wrong. I am not at all suggesting that the performance of these works will gain one acceptance with God, they are just the evidences that God chose you to be His before the world began (Ephesians 1).

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
