Is God Your Father?

If you love Jesus, He is! In John 8:43 we read, "If God were your Father, ye would love me . . . "

There are some folks in this world who come to love God and there are some who do not. Why is this?

Well, Jesus gives us a simple answer in the eighth chapter of John’s gospel. Some people do not truly understand what Jesus said about who He is (which was the topic under consideration in this passage). Jesus claimed to be the eternal God of all heaven and earth (verse 24, 58).

Jesus said that the reason some did not understand what He was saying is, "Ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father, the devil."

Jesus goes on to say, "He that is of God hears God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God" (verses 44, 47).

Jesus tells us plainly in John 3 that one must be born again before he can see or enter the kingdom of God. So we see that God must prepare one’s heart to believe that Jesus is God in the flesh and trust Him alone for his salvation.

Whose hearts is He pleased to prepare? His children, of course; for He is their Father, and He has loved them with an everlasting love (Romans 8:29-30).

Dear Reader, do you love God, hear His words, and believe that He is the God of heaven? Then rejoice, for He is your dear Father, who chose you in Christ before the foundation of the world, that you should be holy and without blame before Him in love: having predestinated you unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will! (Ephesians 1:4-5)
