Religious Humanism

Evangelicals of our day love to decry the awful effects of humanism on modern life, and well we should, for it is the most pervasive and insidious lie of our day.

What is humanism? It is the belief that man, not God, is the center of the universe. It declares that man, not God, is the standard of right and wrong.

It is most clearly manifest in the theory of evolution, which says that man was not created by God, but evolved by a random set of circumstances.

Have you ever wondered how America got so far away from the truth? May I suggest that it began with the modern theology which became popular around the beginning of the nineteenth century, which says that man, not God, is the master of man’s eternal destiny.

It brazenly sets forth the notion that salvation is based on man’s choice of God rather than God’s choice of man. Man, not God is sitting in the driver’s sear.

Jesus said plainly in John 15:16, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain."

The secular humanism of our day closely resembles the religious humanism that reigns in most American churches today.

May God grant that evangelicals return to a biblical theology of the complete sovereignty of God, and then can we rightly cast out the mote in our brother’s eye.
