The Sovereign God

I am completely convinced that most people today have very little real understanding about who God really is and what He is really like. Understanding has been shaped by a theology which sets forth God as one who would really like to do things, but can’t because man is not cooperating.

Such statements as, "God has no hands but your hands and no legs but your legs," and other such drivel have confused many about the true nature of God. God is presented as one who is trying to save folks, and would save everyone if only they would allow Him to do so.

Since many do not read and study the Bible for themselves, they have become easily swayed by this modern theology. But, what is God really like?

The Bible sets forth our God as a sovereign King who, "Doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, ‘What are you doing?’" (Daniel 4:35)

The fact of the matter is, if any person ever lives with God in glory, it is not because of anything he did. (John 15:16, Romans 9:11, 16) It is because a sovereign God chose to reveal Himself in those whom He ordained to eternal life. (Ephesians 1, John 6:37-40, Acts 13:48)

Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
