That's Not Fair!

Some who have been following this series of articles might well have pondered the same question that the Apostle Paul anticipates in the ninth chapter of Romans.

After pointing out the fact that God loved Jacob and hated Esau on the basis of His own sovereign election or choice, he anticipates that there would be some who questioned the fairness of it all (verse 14).

Paul simply asserts that God has mercy on whom He will and hardens whom He will.

The skeptic presses further with this question in verse 19: how can God then find fault with those whom He did not choose?

Paul’s answer is so vitally significant for our day when modern theology has succeeded in thoroughly muddling many people’s minds about who God is and how He works. He simply, but boldly declares that God has the absolute right to do just as He pleases without consulting man for his approval.

Paul says to impertinent man, "Who are you to reply against God?" God has just as much right to do with His creation as a potter has to make one vessel for honor and another of the same lump of clay for dishonor.

Many men still have the same problem with God’s sovereignty today as they did in Paul’s day. May God bless you, dear reader, to agree with God and walk in His peace, knowing that the Judge of all the earth always does right.
