Those That Love God

In Romans 8:28, we read these precious words: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."

The next two verses tell us why this glorious statement is true. Those who love God were foreknown of God. This foreknowledge speaks of the intimate love God had for His people in the covenant of grace before the world began (see Eph 1).

The root word is used to express the intimate relationship between a husband and his wife.To foreknow, then, is to love (see 1 John 4:19, John 15:16).

Those whom God loved in this manner, He did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His son. That is, He purposed their salvation.

Those thus predestinated, He called out of the darkness of this world to walk in His glorious light. Those who are called, He justified by His own blood. Those who are declared right in God’s sight (justified), He will one day glorify with Him in Heaven.

Is it any wonder, then, that Paul triumphantly asks in verse 33, "Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect?"

Oh, my dear reader, if you love God this day, it is not because of anything you did.

If you love Him today, it is because He first loved you and purposed your redemption in Christ before the world began. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!
