Who Will Have All Men To Be Saved

In 1 Timothy 2:4 Paul indicated that God would have all men to be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth. Does he mean here every individual member of the human race? Well, let’s see.

In verse one of that chapter Paul exhorts that prayers be made for all men. Is he exhorting us to pray for every individual member of the human race? Of course not, for that would be an impossible task.

He is exhorting us to pray for all kinds or classes of men, for instance, in verse two, kings and governmental authorities.

When in verse six Paul says that Christ gave himself a ransom for all, he means the same thing; that among his elect, there are all kinds of people, for God is no respecter of persons.

History well shows that God has chosen for himself a people (Ephesians 1) from all kinds of races, languages, nationalities, and peoples.

Besides, can God will something (that all men be saved) and it not come to pass? Here the word of the Lord in Daniel 4:35, "He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand or say unto Him, What doest thou?"

Our job as Christians is to preach the gospel to every creature, and it is God’s job to save whomsoever He will.

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
